It is striking that the 1902 Simultaneous Mission’s international evangelists were more dogmatic about extra-biblical moral issues such as theatre-going, cards, alcohol and dancing, than they were about denominational theological distinctives.
It is this sense of stewardship that helps me make decisions regarding what to say yes to and what to say no to. I usually ask myself, “Has God uniquely entrusted me with what I need to serve him in this way? And is this a worthy way of using what he has entrusted to me?”
Whether it’s a tricky bit of theology or ethics, what brings maturity in the Christian life is rarely swallowing a pill that hurts less, or chewing on something so diluted it’s more liquid food than solid.
