Kaufmann is right to critique this kind of social engineering as irrational therefore immoral and anti-social. And his critique rightly uses laws of logic that are available to all people. But he is wrong to claim that that human rationality is the final authority whereby we can build a tolerant society.
Clementine Ford tells a story that the origins of the church were false, arbitrary and selfish. This account powerfully discounts the moral authority of Christianity.
And so he swept away sin’s tide; / Demons, death denied; / Came back to win his bride.
It’s bizarre to claim that death is not the end and yet, isn’t it bizarre to claim it is?
This is not to say that speculations about theological parallels in nature are themselves wrong. They might work as illustrative metaphors, even if they aren’t strictly what God had in mind when he created them.
